Accelerated Healing Definitions

Chiropractic:
The treatment plan utilized by the Doctor of Chiropractic to treat the patient's complaint will be based on the diagnosis that is reached during the detailed history and examination. There are many different types of treatments that can be employed by the Chiropractor (please refer to some of the other treatment definitions in this Toolbox), but the main tool that is used is the spinal adjustment, or spinal-joint manipulation. During an 'adjustment', a precise and small amount of force and speed is applied to a specific affected vertebra in an attempt to return functionality and movement to that dysfunctional spinal joint. By returning functionality, it returns the spine to its proper alignment and allows the nervous system, which is encased by the spine, to function more efficiently. If the nervous system is functioning more efficiently, then the body can heal itself and attain more strength, less pain, and overall better health.

Extremity Manipulation:
If the patient has an extremity injury, such as a sprained ankle, carpel tunnel syndrome, or a shoulder injury, the Chiropractor may utilize various extremity adjustment techniques. The extremity manipulation focuses a small amount of force and speed to the specific affected joint in an attempt to return functionality and movement to that dysfunctional joint. This has an affect on the joint itself and on the peripheral nervous system that affects that joint.

Activator Technique:
The Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT) uses the Activator Adjusting Instrument to give consistent low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments. This technique is similar to a Chiropractic Adjustment, and has been shown to have similar treatment results, but is less manipulative than a regular adjustment. It can also be used to provide neurostimulation to spasmed muscles to help them to relax. The Activator is an ideal alternative treatment method for a patient that is in too much pain to allow the Chiropractor to position their body for a regular adjustment.

Massage Therapy:
Massage is a relaxing way to relieve stress, tension, and pain. There are many different massage techniques that our Registered Massage Therapists can utilize to help alleviate your specific needs. Massage is used to increase blood flow, increase lymphatic drainage, relax soft tissue, release tension in the fascia, and to break cycles of spasm and/or pain.

Custom Orthotics:
Orthotic Inserts, or Orthotics, allow the muscles, tendons, and joints of the feet to function as efficiently as possible. They do this by properly aligning your feet and decreasing stress, which allows the patient's weight to be distributed more evenly. Orthotics can decrease foot pain and pain in various areas of the body, such as the ankles, knees, hips, back, shoulders, and neck. They can also increase your stability and balance, prevent deformed foot growth from advancing (i.e. Bunions), and help to improve the patient's overall comfort. Orthotics are especially ideal for active patients, overweight patients, and patients that tend to be on their feet for the majority of the day. At CLPT, we offer a complimentary computerized gait scan that can help to diagnose gait imbalances, and help to determine the patient's need for orthotics. All orthotic devices prescribed at CLPT are custom made for the patient.

The Quick Stop Solution (Smoking Cessation Therapy):
Utilizing the high-tech Theralase laser therapy system, a very specific treatment protocol is administered in order to relieve the patient's craving for cigarettes. This treatment helps to minimize the patient's physiological addiction to nicotine, and also aids in reducing the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. This relaxing treatment is supervised by one of our trained doctors. Also, lifestyle instructions are provided to the patient to help minimize the chances of ever smoking again.

Laser Therapy:
Low-intensity laser therapy can be utilized for a great number of conditions. Treatment time ranges from 20 minutes to 60 minutes per session, depending on the condition. The number of treatment sessions depends on the condition and on its severity. Some of the important effects that this therapy can have include: increasing endorphin release which decreases pain, increasing ATP production in the cells of the affected tissue (ATP is the fuel that the cells use), decreasing inflammation, increasing blood flow, neovascularization (growth of new blood vessels), and increasing lymphatic drainage. The treatment is pain-free has no harmful side effects.

Interferential Current (IFC):
IFC is a modality that involves the transcutaneous application of alternating medium-frequency electrical currents. Its effects on the injured area are: a reduction of pain by having an analgesic effect, increased circulation, and a reduction of swelling. Indirectly, IFC helps with the restoration of function and promotes healing.

Custom Bracing:
Bracing is utilized to stabilize an injured or damaged joint. It removes weight and stress from the affected joint to allow that joint to heal or to ensure that no further damage occurs. Bracing can be utilized post-operatively, post-injury, and for arthritic joints. At CLPT, we have trained health professionals that are able to customize the prescribed bracing units to specifically fit your body. This will ensure proper and efficient use.
